How to Increase the Speed of Your Processor by Overclocking

How to increase your processor speed If you can’t afford the expense of new components for your computer, still you can boost the performance, without spending any money at all.

The overclocking is a procedure that makes your PC run faster. It can be considered as boosting up a car’s performance by changing in the oil and overhauling the engine. You can do that for your computer as well by changing a few settings, however there are certain risks associated with this procedure.

How to Determine the Speed of your Processor?

The speed of any processor is determined by calculating the base clock pulse rate and multiplying it with a multiplier. For example, the base speed is 99.8 MHz and the multiplier is 34, this results in 3.4 GHz clock rate of your processor. You can enhance this by two processes, either by changing base clock speed or by just changing the multiplier. Remember, you can only proceed if you have an “unclocked” CPU.

  • Warnings and Hazards of Overclocking:

For beginners, overclocking will almost surely void any warranty on your machine – although a few are built with overclocking in mind. You may harm your CPU or even other parts by overclocking so you will be taking a risk with yourself responsible.

  • Precautions Before Overclocking

The process of overclocking will boost your CPU beyond the limitations, so, it is a suggestion to install some software that will calculate and display the actual frequency and clock rate of your processor (for example, CPU Z), so that there may be chances of saving your PC, in case any mishap occurred.

  • Over-Clockable Processors:

You cannot proceed to change the clock rate if over-clockable processor is not provided by the manufacture of your processor. Generally, the latest processors are allowed for over-clocking. The CPU must be unlocked to manipulate the base clock rate.

  • Compatibility Check:

Intel Core i7 (Extreme Edition), 6th Generation core i7 and i5’s are unlocked to be overclocked. In AMD, most of the modern AMD processor chips are unlocked to alter the base clock.

  • Using the Software:

In trying to over-clock Intel processor, (Intel XTU) Extreme Utility is assistive software. It enables you to control the settings you may need to overclock, such as Voltage, Memory, Power and Core.

In AMD, you can overclock the CPU using Overdrive. It can tune in your processor automatically when you are unsure of some steps, can manage your cooling systems, and run stability tests in real time so you do not need to reboot your PC.

  • Using BIOS:

If you are not using software, you can use the BIOS for overclocking. Press the appropriate Function F-Key to access BIOS. In this way, you can change the settings for both CPU and reboot. However, remember to change Multiplier instead of Base Clock rate because it is more convenient and less complex than changing the system clock.

  1. So, back to the point, I managed to speed up my internet to 11Mbps from around 9Mbps . It made a significant difference to me. I ll show you how in a minute.
